History
Boutique Culture with Strong and Supportive Ownership
RCM’s global platform was founded in 1997 upon the formation of Dresdner RCM Global Investors. This company was created through acquisition by Dresdner Bank AG as the following entities were merged:
- Thornton, UK and Hong Kong, 1988
- Kleinwort Benson Investment Management, UK, 1995
- RCM Capital Management, USA, 1996
In July 2001, Dresdner Bank AG and Allianz AG, an AA- (S&P) rated insurance company, joined to create Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI), one of the world’s largest asset management companies. RCM fits into the structure as one of the specialist, active equity platforms, organised on a global basis within AllianzGI. This change in ownership had no impact on the investment philosophy and process of RCM’s global platform. In 2004 Dresdner RCM Global Investors was re-branded back to RCM, recognising the roots of the company’s sector based investment philosophy.
The name RCM itself originates from San Francisco, where Claude Rosenberg founded the company as Rosenberg Capital Management in 1970. Central to the company's philosophy was that proprietary sector based fundamental research was the foundation of a successful investment process.
RCM and its predecessor organisations have established investment capabilities in the UK since the 19th century, in the United States since 1970 and in Asia since 1973. Over these years RCM built up considerable experience regionally and developed a consistent philosophy and investment style, which has been applied on a global basis since 1997.
